These might just be the most salacious record to ever come out of the Department of Revenue records! Archivist Laura Palma-Blandford came across this interesting set of blackmail letters, which initially came from an unclaimed safety deposit box of one Eli Stauffer. (We still don’t fully understand how they ended up with Revenue). He and Mrs. Lillian Stauffer married in Long Beach, CA in 1906, and divorced in 1924. But at some point, one unidentified person with the initials “K.K.K.” threatened to reveal her affair to her husband if she didn’t comply with his requests.
