Some Resources We Use Regularly

We routinely get calls from people looking for records that we do not have yet, or that are kept by a different repository. Here are some useful links that we consult.

  • Birth and Death Certificates: We have very few birth or death certificates, and the ones we have tend to be older, and are on microfilm. You can find more recent birth and death certificates here: http://genealogy.az.gov/ Please keep in mind that we cannot certify these kinds of records, and you mus request them through the Office of Vital Records.
  • Arizona Memory Project: The State Archives, as well as many other Arizona repositories (the three universities, historical society, etc.) contribute digitized historic images, audio files of oral histories, scanned government documents, etc.to this collaborative site.
  • Arizona Archives OnlineThis site contains finding guides contributed by repositories around the state. These are mainly collection-level with some file or box level inventories.
  • Mesa Family History Center Obituary Index: The index is not completely exhaustive, but we’ve found several references, particularly to Arizona Republic obits in the last couple of decades.
  • Arizona Department of Corrections Inmate Datasearch: if you’re looking for prison records, this is a good place to start. For much older prison records, be sure to check the Historical Prison Register.
